Henderson wildlife control tip of the month:
Opossums are rat like marsupials of the west hemisphere. A marsupial is actually a mammal with a pouch on
the belly-side. They are the only living marsupials in North America, found in the United States and in
Canada. These feisty little creatures are cousins of their larger and more legendary Australian marsupial;
kangaroo. Even though people treat them rather dismissively, they are often mistakenly blamed for Henderson wildlife removal inconveniences
caused by other animals. Dogs and raccoons are usually the ones who make a mess, however opossums being a
bit slower than the rest of the scavengers around the house, frequently bite the bullet. They are actually
really just sweet harmless animals trying to get by.
Appearance and Life cycle: There are over 60 species of opossum in North America. A female
gives birth to defenseless tiny young, who immediately crawl into her pouch. Many times there are up to 20
babies in a litter, but usually only few Henderson pest control survive. Afterwards she carries and nurses them for about 2-3 months,
and later as they get larger, she is carrying them on her back for 1-2 months. A female never leaves without her
young and always protects them. Opossum can grow up to a size of the cat; up to 2.5 ft. With their grey-black fur,
black eyes and ears, little pink, pointed nose and tiny feet look a lot like some creature from Harry Potter. Its
life expectancy is very short they only live 2-4 years.
Biology: These are nocturnal animals, usually sleeping up to 19 hours per day. As they are quite
clumsy and slow they often get in trouble with their predators. While they are unable to escape they engage their
master of disguise move. When in Henderson exterminator danger, even though the opossum could be using its claws and teeth, he prefers to
play dead. Opossum masters the transformation to cadaver perfectly and if that wasn´t enough he also uses the repellent
sweet smell to confuse the enemy. This diversion helps opossum to stay alive or escape, when predator is looking the other
way, surprisingly well.
Habitat: Opossums are very well adapted Henderson animal trapping animals and can easily live anywhere as long as they have water,
food and shelter. Its sharp claws and long, strong tail help them with climbing trees, where they spend a lot of time.
However, you will never see opossum hanging from a tree by its tail.
Diet: These animals are Henderson animal control omnivores and eat grass, nuts, fruit, insects, snails, rodents and even carrion.
Wide range of food and ability to adjust helped them to survive and made them as widespread as they are today.
